Finding The Right Washing Machine?

It seems every time you think about doing laundry; the clothes are piled up in your room and on top of any surface of furniture in sight. You call a repairman who tells you that not only does he not want to fix it, but it's going to cost even more money than buying a new one this time! So, what washing machine should you go for? Buying one shouldn't be difficult...let's go pick one out quick before everything gets too messy.

You stand before rows of shiny new washing machines. A salesman approaches and you know he smells your anxiety; he's here to sell you the most expensive one. To avoid this scenario, consider these five points:

  • what size (small or large),
  • weight (heavy-duty or light),
  • features (inner drum illumination- yes or no?),
  • water consumption (low or high),
  • power consumption (energy-efficient- yes or no?).

How often do you and your family wash clothes?

That answer may change a few things. If you do a lot of laundries every week, then perhaps investing in a more durable washing machine would be best. Even if it costs more money upfront, it’ll save money in the long run because the machine will last longer. But if you're someone who does only one or two loads per week - then spending on that extra gadgetry might not be worth it for your budget. Instead, maybe consider getting a washer/dryer combo that can handle both tasks at once to save time and energy.

Are you worried about how it will affect the environment?

There are many different brands of washing machines available. Some boast short cycles or quick-wash (to reduce energy consumption) and some advertise half-washes with only 50% of the normal amount of water; all these features have significantly less impact on our planet than previous models. I have to admit that the quick cycle has been a blessing in many ways. With limited time available at weekends, I would rather not have to sit around waiting for my clothes to finish being washed! However, if your occupation requires your clothing and suits to be regularly dirtied with sweat or dirt, then this quick washer will just not cut it - but it will serve well as an occasional refresher.

Do you feel like your clothes are constantly getting dirty even after one day of wearing them?

Do they smell bad too?

This could mean that either the soap isn't strong enough for stains, or that it needs to be changed out more often. In addition, did you know that fabrics react differently to various temperatures and some materials require a different wash cycle because they shrink in different ways? But don't worry! There are some easy steps you can take to keep your clothes looking clean and smelling fresh all the time!

Do you want to know if this washing machine is economical to run?

The best way to find out if the washing machine will be cost-effective or not is by looking at its energy ratings. Machines usually show their ratings in big letters on the front of the appliance. The letter A means that it has an excellent rating, while each letter after Z decreases in efficiency and will end up costing more money over time. When I first started using my new top-loading washing machine I noticed how long it took for a regular wash (2 hours) and there was no quick wash option either. This made me think about whether this particular model could save me money--I soon realized, however, that my decision had nothing to do with savings--it had everything to do with saving time!
